“I have found in life when things get tough I recall the connect group discussions and try to use that to help me deal with whatever I am facing”
Connect to God, connect to each other
Covid-19 Update for Connect Groups:
Connect Groups meet weekly to connect with God and with others through bible study, worship, prayer and sharing.
Usually Connect Groups meet at church and in peoples homes however, due to the current restrictions around meeting in groups in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, currently our Connect Groups are meeting online via Zoom on Tuesdays at 8pm.
It is especially important to stay connected with each other during this difficult time so if you would like to join a Connect Group please contact Margaret at email@example.com.
Meeting in a small group to talk about our faith, pray and share what’s going on in our lives is a great way to get better connected with God and one another. We typically meet and chat over coffee and cake (we can’t live on bread alone!) before spending time studying some aspect of the Christian life. This might take the form of following a short discipleship course, a bible study or considering the Christian approach to the issues which affect us.
The social interaction is a really valuable part of our evening as we get to know each other better than is usually possible at Church on a Sunday. We end our time together by praying for the things which we have on our hearts as well as for the life of Christ Church and the wider world. We find that being in a Connect group really helps to sustain and strengthen our lives as Christians and be fully part of the vibrant life of Christ Church.
We are a diverse group who meet in church on Tuesday evenings led by Andrew. There is always a warm welcome for any new members, whatever their age or stage on the Christian journey. Evenings start at 8pm with a hot drink and cake or biscuits. We catch up on any important news before beginning our time of bible study and discussion.
We have a strong ethos of reading the bible open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and inspiration. We listen to one another and respect the diversity of responses that may come from a passage. All are given an opportunity to contribute. Sometimes we do a special activity, making something together, listening to a piece of music or watching a film clip. We end with a time of prayer, where all have the opportunity to share their prayer needs.
Connect 4ever meets on Tuesday evenings at 8pm in someone’s home. We really enjoy having free-ranging discussions about Christian issues – usually based on a bible passage.
Sometimes we use various themes such as Old Testament figures or the earliest New Testament writings. At other times we used course books or video material – but we always feel free to adapt them for our own group.
We like to think about the topical issues of the day and Christian thought in relation to modern culture, and supportively share how we are getting on in our lives. We have a good laugh about things too!
Only Connect meets every Tuesday in someone’s home and we have found that it’s a great way to get to know one another. We follow a bible study or discipleship course, or discuss how our faith intersects with issues facing us in the wider world. We also share issues which are weighing on our minds, and pray about them.
We have fun too, sometimes sharing a meal together, or arrange social events. In a city which can be often be isolating, a small group is a really good way to feel a part of a supportive and connected community.
