“We loved the funeral for Bessie. It was very moving and helpful. Especially how Margaret helped plan everything with our family and sorting the orders of service. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Funerals
With you every step of the way
At Christ Church, we will always be available to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. A Church of England funeral is available to everyone, giving support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed.
The message at all Church of England funerals, wherever they happen, is one of hope. Although there is sadness because someone you know and love has died, in every Church of England funeral there will also be a message of hope in life after death. Hope is not just for the person who has died, it’s for the people who remain behind. It gives us something to hold on to.
The service, wherever it takes place, will be very personal and you and any other family members and friends will be able to plan and contribute to the service. You will be able to choose music and discuss every aspect of the service with the minister who will be conducting it.
There are four possible places for a Church of England funeral to take place:
- A green or woodland burial site
- A crematorium
- A cemetery
- A church
A church minister can take the whole funeral service at any one of these places, or, each location can be combined with a service in a church followed by prayers at that place.
To find out more about a Church of England funeral visit churchofenglandfunerals.org or contact the Vicar at vicar@christchurcheastgreenwich.org.uk.
Every year we hold an annual memorial service at Christ Church to remember those who have died. This service gives us an opportunity to remember those who have died before God and to light a candle in their memory.
Everyone is welcome to come to this service whenever your loved one died and, if you would like someone to be remembered by name during this ceremony, please let us know.
The next service will be on Sunday 4th November at 4pm
