Not even the best winning teams have everything go their way all of the time.
That was a lesson the Christ Church East Greenwich FC boys had to learn in just their second game of the season after finding themselves 1-0 down at half time to a once-in-a-million volley at goal.
Sporting their new blue and white away kit, CCEG FC had played the better football but hadn’t got the breakthrough and were suddenly up against. It would have been forgivable for over-urgency and panic to set in as they chased the win.
Crucially, this team is growing all the time and now knows when to keep their heads. The boys stayed positive, stayed together and kept playing the same way. They kept the faith. And eventually, the breakthrough came when top scorer Charles nodded the ball on for debutant Nassos Stylianou to score. Stylianou’s appearance adds Cyprus to the rapidly growing list of nationalities represented in CCEG FC’s team.
Never one to be outdone when it comes to getting on the scoresheet, Charles then kept up his 100% scoring rate by tucking away a late chance to secure all three points.
James 1:12
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.”
