We will be contacting people who are not on email by telephone. Please let Margaret know if you need any pastoral or practical help or if you think someone else might need pastoral or practical help.
We have sent a message and a palm cross to every household in the Christ Church family – you can read the message here. If you didn’t receive one and would like one please contact Margaret here.
If you are well and able, please think about how you offer your neighbours support, for example, collecting shopping or having a chat on the phone.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich have set up a Coronavirus volunteering scheme You can still sign up here if you would like to help others with things like food shopping, dog walking or friendly phone calls to those self-isolating. Please also register if you are interested in helping the RBG social care teams with their work. This might include working alongside a carer who is visiting people in their homes. They will do all of the appropriate checks, training and support to keep everyone safe.
You could also volunteer with the Greenwich Covid 19 Mutual Aid group by going onto their Facebook page here. All the instructions about volunteering and requesting help are on the page.
Prayer & Connect
At this challenging time for us all, please continue to pray for those who are sick or anxious and all involved in health & emergency services and key workers. Every day, you might like to say the Lord’s Prayer at 1pm, light a candle in your window at 7pm .
Our Connect groups are continuing to meet using Zoom calls with a free app on your phone. If you would like to join a group, please let Margaret know. It’s a great way to Connect with God and with one another during this challenging time.
We will continue to send out suggestions and ideas for prayer for ourselves, our country and the world during this difficult time. Here is a link to our Lent Course booklet on ‘Care for Creation’ and here is a link to sign up for the daily email for #LiveLent from the Church of England.
You might find this poem Lockdown written by Brother Richard inspiring and helpful.
Church of England guidance
A reminder that, in light of the Government guidance around non-essential contact, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have advised that all public worship is suspended until further notice. This means that there will be NO church services at Christ Church East Greenwich. We have also had to suspend the activities which take place in the church for the time being. However, we can continue to think about what action we can take in our communities to continue to turn prayer into action.
The church is the people and there are lots of ways that we can be church and do church without meeting in the church. We will be live streaming the Sunday service on Facebook and keeping in contact with people by telephone, Mailchimp emails, social media and with website updates at www.christchurcheastgreenwich.org.uk.
